Spanish Lacrosse History

Lacrosse is a sport, although not well known in Spain, that has a rich history in other countries such as Canada, the USA, Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Sweden, England, Ireland and Scotland just to name a few. There are international associations that regulate the development and growth of Lacrosse worldwide (Federation European of Lacrosse, Lacrosse's International Federation, and more), as well as international tournaments like the World Cup or the EuroCup and Madrid's very own tournament celebrated every May.

With all the interest and growth in the sport, it was logical that it would one day be played in Spain. An attorney from New York, Karl D. Seitz and a German lacrosse player, Jenny Paulin, took the first important steps of introducing the sport of lacrosse to the city of Madrid.

Little by little, the first practices were organized. Spaniards, foreign exchange students and others from the USA, Germany and the UK got together and took advantage of the opportunity to aid the sports growth by helping the team learn from their expertise.

It was in the year 2003 when Lacrosse finally entered into the lives of a small group of Spaniards. They have dedicated a large part of their time in helping this sport thrive as well as getting in touch with other clubs to announce our desires to learn, grow and participate in tournaments.

With the help of this small group of Spaniards our team, starting in 2003, has had the opportunity to discover that Lacrosse is not only a highly competitive team sport, but that there is much more behind it: there is a whole world of passions, emotions, battles, pride and more importantly, of friendship.
